Why you need an interior designer…
Decorating is the fun part of the renovation isn’t it. Choosing the paint colours, going shopping for sofas and picking out artwork and cushions. So why would anyone in their right mind PAY someone to do it for them?
I used to think this too, its the main reason that I never pursued my dream of becoming a full time interior designer. Why on Earth would anyone actually pay me to make their house look nice? Well over the years I’ve renovated a couple of houses, I’ve helped family and friends redecorate and I’ve chatted to A LOT of people who have been in a complete tizz whilst going through a renovation. I’ve listed below some of the many reasons why hiring a designer would be beneficial for you and could actually save you money in the long run, grab a cuppa, sit down and have a read…
1 - We are the experts…. We have qualifications, training and experience in designing spaces. We also probably have a natural flair that brought us to study it in the first place. So for the exact same reason that you (probably) don’t cut your own hair or fit your own Sky dish, you would benefit from having an expert design your home. Take going to a restaurant for instance, we can all make a tomato soup, we have the ingredients, a recipe and the utensils, but doesn’t it taste so much better when a professional chef cooks it for you! The chef has probably made a million soups in his career, hes studied and trained and knows exactly what is needed to create the perfect one. Not only that but the buzz and ambience of the restaurant, the service and the fact that you don’t need to lift a finger all adds to the reasons why we love going out for dinner. The same goes when hiring a designer, we know what we’re doing and we can do it all for you. How nice does that sound!
2 - You can be as involved as you wish… Or you can with me anyway. Most designers work alongside their clients to create a space that is the exact match for them. We go deep into the heart of our clients wants, wishes, needs and desires (interior desires that is..!) to design something that is personal to them. So its actually really important that you are involved. If you have the misconception that hiring a designer means you won’t get to pick the paint colours and cushions, well that’s definitely not true. At Interior Stories you are provided with more than one design to chose from, and not only that, we work with you to ensure that everything on those designs is perfect, so if there’s something you don’t like, we can change it. Hiring a designer just means that the choices are made smaller for you, it doesn’t mean there’s no choice at all.
3 - We will keep you focused… Pinterest has screwed it up for all of us. Before, we thought we liked Scandi design, then whist creating our perfect Scandi dining room board, we saw a picture of an Art Deco design and fell in love. Then we had to somehow combine the scandi with the Art Deco. Then along came the snap of the minimalist Kitchen which made us fall in love with clean lines and no clutter which totally contradicted the maxamilist living room that we’d just pinned. Sound familiar? yep, I’ve been there too. In a world where there is so much choice, we can keep you focused. You may love Art Deco, but maybe you only like the geometric lines, which we can include in the art work or fabrics. Perhaps you like the minimalist design because it seemed organised, well in that case, we can just include clever storage solutions in your design. Then its probably the strong colours that you loved in the maxamalist design or the fact that the were lots of plants, well guess what, we can include those too. So you can have your scandi/art deco/minimalist/maxamalist design but in a way that suits you and your space and that makes sense.
4 - We will more than likely SAVE you money… You weren’t expecting that were you! Yes, we charge a fee, just as a hairdresser does, or an architect or Lawyer, but in the long run you will more than likely end up saving money by hiring a designer. I’m sure we’ve all been guilty of decorating a room only to then redecorate a little while later. I’ve definitely been guilty of this in the past. Before I started studying interior design I would go full throttle into choosing things I liked without a single thought if they would all come together. I’d chose paint colours without considering the room, the orientation or the feel and function of the room. I’d impulse buy, get home and realise I’d made a total mistake and it didn’t fit in with the ‘scheme.’ All of these are classic mistakes we all make when decorating and they end up costing us a fortune in the long run because we keep trying to correct our mistakes. Hiring a designer will mean that you get a qualified professional design a space for you that should not need changing for years. Yes you may want to change up the accessories when the seasons change, or repaint because the kids have drawn all over the walls, but the base of the design will be timeless and perfectly suited to you and your needs.
5 - We take away all of the horrible bits… I was out with a friend today, we were at the farm with our kids when she got a phone call from the guy who was templating her kitchen worktop. Long story short, she had to leave to deal with the problem. This is something that wouldn’t have happened had she hired a designer, because the designer would have taken care of it. Its not secret that rennovations are stressful, but they are less stressful when you have a project manager that is able to deal with everything. No more calls at work, no more rushing out of meetings because you need to chose a bathroom tile right this second, and no more rushing home to tell the builder where the light switches are going. Sounds good doesn’t it…
I hope this has helped you understand why hiring an interior designer can be valuable. If you have any questions or would like any more information on our services or how we work, head on over to the contact page, we’d love to hear from you.
